Are you the type of person who prefers to escape the maddening crowds and get some awesome deals in the process? Well, you are in luck. The kiddies are going back to school in the United States and many other countries across the globe, which means that fall is the official start of Maui’s off season, which usually runs from September to December.
Off season in Maui is a bit of a misnomer, because the weather is still gorgeous on our little island, and you can still enjoy all of the beauty of our beaches, our dormant volcano, our amazing golf courses, and basically everything else that makes Maui a top global vacation and holiday destination.
Best Weather of the Year?
Surprisingly, September and October may actually be the best time to visit Maui, at least where the weather is concerned. Summer is actually the rainy season in Maui. September and October are much drier, and the high heat of summer has backed off, making it much more pleasant to walk around and explore the island.
Big Savings in the Fall
The off season is also your prime opportunity to save a little money, which doesn’t hurt one bit. According to an article in USA Today, airfare from California to Hawaii in the off season can be as much as $300 cheaper than the same ticket during peak season. That’s a lot of extra fancy cocktails you can afford!
Off season also means much more competitive room and rental rates. With fewer tourists filling up rooms, resorts and condo rental companies are usually willing to give you a good deal. Do your homework, and don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and do a little haggling to see who wants your business the most.
More Space
Perhaps the best thing about visiting Maui in the off season is that everything will be less crowded, from our most famous beaches, to our golf courses, and our “hidden treasures.” In the off season, you can easily find a spot to spread out your large beach towel on the beach, or get your picture taken at the Seven Sacred Pools at ‘Ohe’o Gulch without ten strangers wading around in the background. You’ll get to enjoy less crowded scuba diving and snorkeling tours as well as shorter waits at the island’s best restaurants.
So, if you haven’t had a vacation yet this year, then it’s time to take some time off of work and treat yourself. There seriously is no better time to visit Maui than right now!
