Maui has a brand new oceanfront dining destination that’s got both locals and visitors talking.
Havens Harborside Fish & Chophouse recently opened its doors in the completely renovated space that formerly housed Beach Bums restaurant in Ma’alaea Harbor. And let me tell you, this place is a game-changer for the island’s culinary scene.
Led by born-and-raised Maui chef Zach Sato, Havens is all about showcasing the freshest local ingredients and island favorites. Think line-caught fish, Maui produce, and flavors that could only come from someone who truly understands Hawaii’s unique food culture. The menu spans lunch, happy hour, and dinner, with standout dishes like:
- Fresh catch poke bowls with ahi or kanpachi
- Deluxe smash burgers with local beef and house sauces
- Furikake crusted mahi mahi and blackened ahi burgers
- Teppanyaki NY steak with wok veggies
- Local-style fish & chips with guava vinegar
For dessert, Havens serves up local favorites like kokoleka ice cream cake with caramel, ube velvet cake, mango cheesecake and traditional Portuguese malasadas. Is your mouth watering yet?
Seating
You can enjoy your meal in an air-conditioned dining room with harbor views, which is a treat on hot Maui days. Or sit outside in the shade. Either way, you get epic views of the boats in the harbor. For those wanting to watch surfing or other sports, the bar is the perfect spot to post up.
Drinks & Happy Hour
Havens also has a great selection of custom cocktails, frosty draft beers, and non-alcoholic “mocktails.” Sip one at happy hour from 3-5pm and snack on small plates like Kusshi oyster shooters, Kona shrimp cocktail, kimchi crab Rangoon, and mini smash burgers.
Reasons to Visit
- The food. It’s undeniable that they offer some of the most delicious meals in the State. Each time we’ve visited, it’s been eye-opening. We need more amazing restaurants on Maui!
- Chef Sato and his team worked tirelessly, 7 days a week, for almost a year to help fire victims. Day one, they were in action helping feed those in need without getting paid. They signed their Maalaea lease a week before the fires and weren’t able to get up and going until this winter. So, supporting them is appreciated more than you can imagine.
- For those heading out on a boat trip, enjoying a meal before or after your adventure is a no-brainer.
- They offer complimentary valet parking for dinner service.
