Our island may be small, but it’s big enough to make our own craft beer, delicious fruity wine, and smooth vodka. Get ready to add some spice to your next Maui trip!
Maui Brewing Company
In 2005, the Maui Brewing Company opened and started offering its signature ales and lagers, all brewed right in its facility. This brewery and pub is dedicated to using as many local ingredients as possible and even recycles its spent grains by giving them to local farmers to use as compost. Every offering is “brewed with aloha,” and some of its most popular brews include: Bil Swell IPA, Mana Wheat, Lemongrass Saison, Lahaina Town Brown, and Bikini Blonde Lager.
Maui Wine
Add a little posh and fun to your Maui vacation by visiting the King’s Cottage tasting room of Maui Wine, the only winery on the island of Maui. This gorgeous winery is located in the lush Maui countryside of Ulupalakua and is steeped in local history. The King’s Cottage tasting room gets its name, because the building was once used as a retreat by King Kalākaua, the last Hawaiian king, and his wife, Queen Kapi’olani.
Maui Wine infuses its unique wine collection with the spirit of Hawaii. If you have a strong sweet tooth, make sure you try its pineapple wines, including the Maui Blanc, Maui Splash, and Hula O Maui. It also offers its popular Rose, Syrah, and Chenin-Viognier. Happy tasting!
Ocean Vodka
If you are looking for something a little stronger, then head to Kula in upcountry Maui where you will find the Ocean Vodka organic farm and distillery. Shay Smith, the company’s president, is dedicated to creating smooth, impurity-free vodka using sustainable and organic practices. The distillery offers daily tours starting at 9:30 am. You’ll learn how the distillery grows a variety of different kinds of sugar cane without synthetic pesticides and how Ocean Vodka is created through continuous column distillation. You’ll even walk away with your very own vodka shot glass!
Wow-Wow Lemonade
Of course, you need something for the kiddies. If you find yourself in Kahului, you absolutely must make your way to Wow Wow Lemonade, a beloved Maui establishment that offers 15 gourmet tropical lemonades and limeades in its distinctive glass mason jars. This lemonade is a treat for children and adults alike. You may have trouble picking between kiwi strawberry, Maui ginger, Ali’i Kula lavender blackberry, Hawaiian Arnold Palmer, and more! They even have a location in Kihei at the Azeka Mauka Center.
