If you will be visiting our lovely island this Labor Day weekend, then you have a lot of fun activities to choose from. Besides everyday favorites like scuba diving, whale watching, and lazing at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, you can also take part in some local events over the weekend. These are especially good options if you need to rest your wallet for a few days. Here are four fun events taking place in Maui over the 2015 Labor Day weekend:
Friday, 09/04 – Art Night in Lahania Town
Let your inner creative spirit run free during this relaxed and enjoyable event. Galleries throughout Lahania Town throw open their doors from 7 to 10 PM and invite the public in to view their latest and greatest collections. Stroll through the streets on the warm night and duck into the dozens of galleries that populate Lahania Town, nick-named, “The Art Capital of the Pacific.” You’ll get to see all kind of art and may even find something that captures your heart. Free refreshments will be offered.
Saturday, 09/05 – Guided Walk of Waihe’e Coastal Dunes & Wetland Refuge
If you want to dig deep into Maui’s history and see one of the most culturally rich areas of the entire state, come be a part of this free guided tour through the Waihe’e coastal dunes and wetlands refuge. During this easy two mile loop you will learn about ancient Hawaiian village and temples, kings and queens, and local myths. You’ll also get to see endangered plants and animals.
Sunday, 09/06 – Summer Block Party
If you have the itch to shop or need to grab some mementos to bring home to your family, then stop by the Summer Block Party, presented by the Outlets of Maui. Many of the businesses within the outlet participate in different ways. The Hard Rock Café offers happy hour pricing, while other businesses put select wares outside for fun sidewalk sales where you can find fantastic deals. Best of all, proceeds from the event support the Make-A-Wish Hawaii foundation.
Monday, 09/07 – Whale Talk
You may take a well-deserved day off on Labor Day, but the beautiful humpback whales who call the waters off of Maui home for half the year will still be busy. Come visit the Hawaiian Island Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary for a free one hour discussion about these amazing creatures. The humpback whales are a cornerstone of Maui’s identity and are thrilling to see from the shore or up close. This discussion will arm you with great information if you plan on taking a whale watching trip during your Maui vacation.
