Whether you are an adventurous senior citizen set on conquering Maui’s beautiful shores, or you want to bring your parents with you on your island getaway, Maui offers loads of activities that appeal to all ages. There are lots of different ways to see and experience our island, and not all of them require you to be on a surfboard or rattling down the side of a volcano on a mountain bike. Here are our five favorite senior-friendly activities on Maui:
1. An Ocean Sunset Cruise
One way to get out on the water is to book one of many available cruises around Maui Island. You’ll enjoy gorgeous views from the deck of the ship as well as excellent food and maybe even some fun activities depending on which cruise you take. If you are celebrating an anniversary, consider splurging on a sunset cruise with cocktails, so you can watch the sun sink on the horizon and toast your one and only.
2. Snorkeling
Who says you have to stay above the water to enjoy it? Dive right in, and you’ll be amazed at what you can find just below the surface. Maui offers some of the very best snorkeling in the world. Our water is warm, clear, and teeming with life. Some of our favorite snorkeling spots are Molokini Crater, Turtle Town, Coral Gardens and Black Rock. Anyone who can swim can snorkel. The activity is gentle on joints and great for the entire family.
3. Play Golf
If you love sending that tiny white ball sailing across the fairway, then you’ve come to the right place. Maui is a golf destination, with award-winning courses that will entertain and challenge players at all levels. Whether you play on the Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay, the Gold Course at Wailea Golf Club, or the Ka’anapali Kai Course, you’ll get breathtaking views that will make you feel like a winner even if you don’t make par.
4. See the ‘Ulalena Show
If you want to dive deeper into the history and traditions of Maui, stop by Maui theater in Lahaina to watch ‘Ulalena, It’s a fascinating theatrical performance that includes acrobatics, hula dancing, gorgeous costumes, and a telling of ancient Maui legends. The young and the young-at-heart will love it!
5. Tour of Haleakala
One of Maui’s most visible and awesome natural wonders is Haleakala. Soaring over 10,000 feet, this volcano practically pierces the clouds. You can find some of the island’s most spectacular views from the top. Drive up to the summit in your rental car or grab a seat on a local bus tour. You haven’t really seen Maui, until you’ve gazed out across the island from Haleakala’s peak!
You may have the heart of a young and wild adventurer, but that doesn’t mean you want to spend your nights squeezed into a Spartan hostel. Instead, treat yourself to a luxury condo in South Maui at a great price. Ali’i Resorts has ocean front vacation condos that will put you right on the beach!
