Maybe you’ve geard the saying, “Maui is where people are sent when heaven is overbooked.” It sure feels like it when you can sink your toes in the warm golden sand, capture the stunning panoramic views and take in the warm “Aloha” vibe of Maui and our people.
Whether you are visiting Maui for the first time or are an island adventure returnee, it’s always good to know what time of year is best to visit the island.
Maui Temperatures
You’ll be pleased to know that Maui’s warm tropical climate is fairly consistent year round with daytime highs in the mid-80’s to mid-70’s during the summer and winter respectively. Temperatures drop the higher you go in elevation, so staying near the ocean on the west or south side will keep you warm. In general, staying during the summer on Maui is really best for anyone looking for the most consistent warm/hot temperatures. Wailea and Makena are favorites, as well as South Kihei and North Kihei.
Maui Precipitation
Year-round, the weather on Maui’s west and south shores is typically ideal for visitors. Most of the island’s rainfall occurs during the winter months, from November through April. These showers are often brief, followed by warm sunshine and, if you’re lucky, a stunning rainbow. We consider rainbows as symbols of good luck. If you’re deadset on staying dry, your best bet is to visit in the summer.
Budget-Conscious Visitors
If you’re looking for the best deals on accommodations, choose a time in either late spring or fall. The months just after summer tend to be our slowest, which spurs better deals. These months offer the most affordable travel rates and fewer crowds, providing an added bonus for visitors. Check out our current Maui specials.
Considering the weather, accommodation demand, and crowd levels, the best months to visit—especially for budget-conscious travelers—are late March, April, May, August, September, and early October. No matter when you choose to visit, your time on Maui will be the slice of heaven you deserve.
Winter Time
If you love spending the holidays on Maui, we don’t blame you. Winter is a magical time to escape the cold and enjoy this tropical paradise. It’s also the season of the magnificent humpback whales, which migrate to Maui’s warm, sheltered waters each year from January through April to mate and give birth. Maui offers the best whale-watching opportunities in the entire state, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot one through early May.
